Dr. Ana Isabel Benites Mateos
Résumé
Ana is originally from Spain, where she received her BSc in Biology (2013) from the University of Seville. After a year and a half working in industry (Abengoa Research S.L.), she pursued a MSc in Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology (2016). Then, she performed her PhD thesis (2019) on cell-free protein synthesis and enzyme immobilization under the supervision of Prof. Fernando López-Gallego at CICbiomaGUNE (Spain). After her PhD, she joined the group of Prof. Francesca Paradisi as postdoctoral researcher, firstly at the University of Nottingham (UK) and later at the University of Bern (CH) funded by a SELF Postdoctoral fellowship. Her postdoctoral research has been focused on flow biocatalysis and sustainable synthesis of pharmaceuticals. In 2022, she has been the project manager of an Innosuisse Innovation project whose goal is the exploitation of heterogenous biocatalysts for industrial applications. In 2023, she is awarded a SNSF Ambizione grant to start her independent research career. Her project will focus on the bioengineering of artificial extremozymes and ‘extremocells’ to develop more sustainable and robust biocatalysts.
